1. Sponsor
The Paths That Lead to Us Signed Two-Book Giveaway (the “Giveaway”) is sponsored and administered by D.R. Irwin, Ontario, Canada (the “Sponsor”). Questions may be sent to drirwin.books@gmail.com. No home address is collected from any entrant. Amazon and Meta are not sponsors or administrators of this Giveaway.
2. Giveaway period
The Giveaway begins at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on October 12, 2026 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on October 31, 2026 (the “Giveaway Period”).
Comments made before the Giveaway Period, including comments on the October 8 advance announcement, are not entries. The Sponsor's computer and Facebook's displayed timestamps will be used to determine when an entry was received.
3. Eligibility
The Giveaway is open only to legal residents of Ontario, Canada, who are 18 years of age or older when they enter and can provide a valid Ontario mailing address if confirmed as the winner.
The Sponsor, members of the Sponsor's immediate household, and anyone directly involved in administering the Giveaway are not eligible. The Giveaway is void where prohibited by law.
4. How to enter
During the Giveaway Period, leave one comment on the original October 12 Giveaway post on the public D.R. Irwin Facebook Page answering this question:
If science could answer one unanswered question about consciousness, identity, time or the universe, what would you ask—and why?
Limit one eligible entry per person. If a person submits more than one otherwise eligible comment, only the first complete eligible comment will be included in the draw. An entry must remain visible on the original Giveaway post through the time of the draw.
No purchase, payment, Page follow, post like, share, repost, friend tag or other publicity is required. None of those actions improves an entrant's chance of winning. Entries that are automated, incomplete, duplicated, unrelated to the question, abusive, fraudulent, made outside the Giveaway Period or otherwise fail to comply with these Official Rules may be disqualified.
5. Prize
There is one prize bundle consisting of one new paperback copy of A Door with No Key; one new paperback copy of Where It Belongs; the author's signature in both books; a reasonable personalized inscription in each book, selected by the confirmed winner; and standard shipping to one valid Ontario mailing address, paid by the Sponsor.
The approximate retail value of the two books is CAD $34.98, based on current Canadian retail prices of CAD $19.99 and CAD $14.99. Standard Ontario shipping is included at no cost to the winner; its cost varies by destination and is not included in the stated book value. The signature and personalization have no separate stated cash value.
The prize is non-transferable, has no cash alternative and may not be exchanged. If an advertised book becomes unavailable for reasons beyond the Sponsor's reasonable control, the Sponsor may offer a replacement of equal or greater retail value, subject to applicable law.
6. Selection and odds
On November 1, 2026, the Sponsor will assign a number to every eligible entry and use a documented computer-generated random-number draw to select one potential winner.
The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received. The Sponsor will retain a private administrative record of the eligible-entry count and the draw.
7. Potential-winner contact and skill-testing question
The Sponsor will attempt to contact the potential winner by replying to the selected entry and, where available, by Facebook direct message. The potential winner must respond within 48 hours of the first contact attempt.
Before being declared the winner, the selected entrant must confirm that they are an eligible Ontario resident age 18 or older; correctly answer, without assistance or a calculator, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question administered privately by the Sponsor; and provide the information reasonably required to deliver the prize.
If the selected entrant cannot be contacted, does not respond within 48 hours, is ineligible, declines the prize, does not correctly complete the skill-testing question or otherwise fails to comply with these Official Rules, the entrant will be disqualified and the Sponsor may conduct another random draw.
The selected entrant is not the winner until all requirements have been completed and the Sponsor confirms the win.
8. Personalization and delivery
After confirmation, the winner may provide a reasonable requested inscription, recipient name and one valid Ontario mailing address. The Sponsor may decline wording that is unlawful, abusive, discriminatory, defamatory or otherwise inappropriate.
The Sponsor will sign and personalize the books and send the prize by standard shipping within 30 days after winner confirmation, subject to circumstances outside the Sponsor's reasonable control. The Sponsor is not responsible for delays caused by the carrier or for an incorrect address supplied by the winner, but will make reasonable efforts to help resolve delivery problems.
9. Privacy
Facebook comments are public. The Sponsor will use entry information only to administer the Giveaway. Only the confirmed winner will be asked privately for a recipient name, requested inscription and mailing address. That information will not be published, sold, added to a mailing list or used for unrelated marketing.
The Sponsor may announce that a winner has been confirmed. The winner's name or municipality will be published only with the winner's consent.
10. Fair administration
The Sponsor may disqualify an entry that appears fraudulent, automated, abusive or disruptive. If fraud, technical failure, platform failure or circumstances beyond the Sponsor's reasonable control prevent fair administration, the Sponsor may amend, suspend or cancel the Giveaway, subject to applicable law. Any material change will be announced on the public D.R. Irwin Facebook Page.
The Sponsor's decisions concerning eligibility and administration are final, subject to applicable law. The Giveaway is governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario.
11. Meta release and acknowledgement
By entering, each entrant releases and holds Meta harmless from liability relating to this Giveaway. This Giveaway is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Meta or Facebook. Entrants provide their information to the Sponsor, not to Meta.
